Cheetos O.
I love combiners and I bought this because I wanted a Legends scale Superion. This is the only one available on the market right now. I would have missed out on it had Zeta not done a reissue. This is the cheapest of the three combiners I own. The others are Magic Square Bruticus and Devastator. I will be comparing him to the Magic Square's. First of all, they look spectacular, with paint quality on the level of Newage's fine work. They feel great in hand with some heft due to the diecast being used. I don't know how the previous versions look, but if you want to own him, the Metallic edition is the way to go. 10/10 in the looks department. The plastic, while does feel a little cheap, is fine to me. It's a touch below Newage's but much better than MFT figures. The alt mode looks great. Robot mode looks pretty good, but combiner mode is where it's at. Transformation is easy and fun for the most part. While I wished they involve Silverbolt more in the combiner mode instead of just plugging him in the back, I can't deny how great Superion look and for that, Zeta has succeeded.
Is he perfect, no. First of, like many people complaining before me, QC and tolerance issues rear their ugly heads. However, it seems Zeta has resolved many of the problems bc I only have a few issues. For me, one of the tail of the plane keeps falling off. The two small wings for Superion's chest doesn't fit. I had to carve it down a little to make it fit. Finally, the ankle for Superion is a little weak, making him tend to lean forward or backward more easily than I would like. A few joints are either too loose or too tight, but overall, they are good in both bot and combiner modes.
Articulation is decent in robot and combiner mode, but not up to par with modern design. You will get by with certain poses, but don't expect to be able to do any dynamic pose. I will be putting him in combine mode for the rest of his life so I'm not too concerned with some of his issues and limited articulation. He goes well with Magic Square combiners, although he is the shortest and the thinnest.
I think he is worth the money, even if he is not your favorite and you just want him in your collection. For me, I love Superion and I'm quite happy with my purchase. BTW, you can open the head up and swap the back of the toy's head and combine it with the toon's front head. I think he looks better like that with his antennae from the toy version and the face of the toon version. Also, I like that his head is rounded in the back from the toy's head. 9/10 for me. Highly recommended.
