I'm a Legends collector and for many years, I have been trying to find a good Sideswipe. However, I haven't found any. The offering from Magic Square and MFT are okay, I bought the MFT's, they just didn't do it for me. While I may collect Legends scale almost exclusively, it doesn't mean I don't go to different scale if there is a unique TF or one that is really nice looking. Also, while the size is the main issue, the price is also a point of consideration. When this was announced, I thought it looked absolutely brilliant. I've never seen a nicer Sideswipe, at least in robot mode. When they announced the price of $80, the price of Newage Dinobot, I put down a pre-order right away. If he was more than $100, I don't think I would have bought him. Anyway, on to the review. Opening him up in alt mode, he looks great. He is smaller than I thought for an MP scale, but then I've never really experienced MP scale figure. This is my first MP purchase, though I do have a KO MP Megatron and Optimus Prime someone bought for me as a gift a long time ago. The paint is great. Love the pop up headlight. While the side mirror isn't accurate, I think it's fine and understand why it needs to be like that. Also, the rubber wheels are great, though I think it would have been better if they were racing slick. People complained about the center joint holding up the back spoiler and while I agree it takes a little bit away from the aesthetic of an otherwise beautiful alt mode, I can understand why it is necessary. Also, all the panel lines in the front hood doesn't make it look as smooth and nice as other Sideswipes. However all these decisions are there to make the robot mode as nice as it can be. If you want to have a nice alt mode and will display him mostly in that, then I'd recommend the official MP version. In saying that, this alt mode isn't that bad. It's actually quite good to be honest. As for the transformation, it can be a bit daunting at first due to tight tabs. However, afterwards, it's fine. Transformation is a bit challenging the first time around, but after you know what you are doing, it's not too bad. As for the robot mode, I will say this with all honesty. It is the BEST looking Sideswipe out there from any angles. All the sacrifices in alt mode was to make the robot mode as it can be and it is well worth it. The details on him is great. Articulation is terrific. The only issue I have with him is his thumb. It needs to have 1 more joint of articulation as the 1 joint it has is very lacking. Other than that, he is great. He makes me understand why people love MP scale. There is just so much details and articulations and they just look fantastic in both mode. As much as I like him, I won't be jumping into MP scale any time soon. Price and space is what is preventing me from doing so. This is definitely a must buy from me. I hope DX9 do a Sunstreaker as I would definitely be in on that. I love Lambos and the way this guy looks, I have no doubt that that will be a winner as well.
